Asian markets traded mostly lower in early deals on Friday, due to intensifying Middle East tensions and an AI-driven tech pullback. Investor sentiment soured after Hezbollah rejected a U.S.-brokered Lebanon ceasefire and Israel signalled it would maintain troops. Japan’s Nikkei plunged after real wages jumped for a fourth consecutive month, strengthening bets on hawkish stance by BoJ. South Korea’s KOSPI marked sharpest weekly dip since late March with sharp sell offs in semiconductor giants.
Nikkei tumbled by 992.69 points or 1.47% to 66,478.00, Straits Times down by 14.89 points 0.29% to 5,052.64, Hang Seng dipped by 214.40 points or 0.86% to 25,039.00, Taiwan weighted plunged by 761.42 points or 1.67% to 44,916.04, KOSPI Index wilted by 451.29 points or 5.22% to 8,188.12, and Jakarta Composite trimmed by 147.63 points or 2.53% to 5,692.16.
On the flip side, Shanghai Composite rose by 17.53 points or 0.43% to 4,075.31 and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI index up by 11.88 points or 0.71% to 1,695.14.
