Asian markets traded mostly lower in early deals on Monday, on account of risk aversion after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened fresh strikes on Iran, casting doubt on peace negotiations and raising concerns over a potential disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Reignited inflation concerns with the surge in crude oil rates, and bets on hawkish stance by the central banks also pressure the local indices. Hang Seng declined the most among Asian indices with the negative cues overseas. Persistently weak domestic consumption and disappointing macroeconomic data out of mainland China dulled investor confidence.

Straits Times down by 9.13 points 0.18% to 5,183.57, Hang Seng slipped by 209.81 points or 0.88% to 23,715.00, KOSPI Index declined by 20.68 points or 0.23% to 9,031.74, Jakarta Composite dipped by 78.18 points or 1.27% to 6,098.96, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI index narrowed by 3.85 points or 0.22% to 1,708.18

On the flip side, Nikkei up by 1,409.94 points or 1.98% to 72,660.00, Taiwan weighted surged by 1,333.39 points or 2.87% to 47,798.59, and Shanghai Composite added by 7.53 points or 0.18% to 4,098.01.
